Importance of Restricting Social Media and TV Usage for a Peaceful Mind

Our brain cannot decide anything without data from outside. We have 5 input sources to the brain and those are our 5 senses, mainly eyes and ears. When data comes in, the first mind analyses it based on its beliefs and writes it to memory based on the feelings that data made in our brain. So this new data has become part of you and later on your attitude, behavior, addictions etc will be based on this data too.

So it is very important to monitor what we feed through our senses but most of the time we don’t give much importance to that. Especially in today’s world our brains are bombarded with too much data, far more than our brain can handle. So it is a herculean task for the brain to decide which data to store and which to discard. Mind always has a tendency to stick to negativity and also negative emotions create more impulses than positive ones. Also in the external world we face more negative situations than positive ones. So most of the data written will be negative and that seriously affects our mental stability and mood.

Now in social media websites or apps and TV programs, especially TV news most of the things will be creating negative emotions in our brain like grief, fear, anger etc. When such a data comes in due to its high impulses that data will definitely go to the memory. Also many of such news or videos may be fake too. There is no point in a negative impulse being created in your brain for something happening thousands of miles away from your place. World will never become a heaven. There will always be so much negativity in the world. For centuries so many people tried to correct the world but nobody succeeded so far. So don’t worry about things which you don’t have any control over.

Another problem with social media is that people project only the positive side of their life there. When seeing such a brighter side of everybody you feel dejected and frustrated that your life is not going that way. That may lead to inferiority complexes or depression and you start feeling that you are only one suffering in this world. Your mind does not recognize the negative side of those people because your subconscious mind always believes whatever data it gets. That reduces your self confidence and self love. When you don’t love yourself you will lose peace of mind and happiness.

There are many other problems too like people can misuse your photos. You may feel depressed if you don’t get likes or followers as per your expectation etc. Another major problem with such apps is we will become addicted to it. Whenever a notification comes we will be forced to open it and check it. Actually mobile phones are supposed to be our slave. But now what is happening is gadgets are taking control and we have become their slaves.

So what we can do to overcome this situation is limit the usage of social media apps. Of course technology has opened many good doors for us which few decades back we couldn’t even imagine. So use such things to improve your life. Don’t be a slave to such apps. Take control. You are the master. Social media is not a place to publish your private life. Be careful what you share with  the world. Keep private life always private. While watching TV also, watch relaxing and encouraging programs instead of horror movies and negative news. Always remember whatever your watching or hearing is going deep inside you and becoming part of you. Your tomorrow’s decisions, habits, attitude, behavior, addictions etc will be based on these data. Also remember that your subconscious mind cannot differentiate something happening in the real world and something seeing in a tv or mobile screen. So whatever you are watching on TV or mobile also goes into memory like a real time event. That is the main reason why people have become more and more criminal minded these days. So spend time very carefully with these modern gadgets. It can enhance you and at the same time it can destroy you too. Choice is yours. Be wise and use it accordingly.
