Top Mindful Affirmations : Be Present and Mindful

Why should I practice Mindfulness ?

Mind is an amazing gift from god to humans and our mind and intellect were evolved a lot and that is the main difference between us and them. Of course human body is the most sophisticated and complicated machine ever invented and mind is one of the most beautiful thing in that. But problem is it’s overuse.

On an average basis 65,000 thoughts come to our mind. Every thought drain energy and more than that out of these 65k thoughts most of them will be negative too. So it not only drain most of our energy it also affect our mood or overall mental state. Brain is also like any other organs, use it only necessary. Think about your arms or legs. You use it only when you want to move. Now assume you are moving your arms are legs continuously throughout the day! You will becomes tired in an hour. Same thing is happening to mind. We are using it continuously whenever we are awake. So we need to give some rest to mind.

In ancient Indian texts they say mind is like a drunken monkey. Monkey is always restless and how it will behave when it is drunken too ? So there no option to just switch on and off our minds. You need to practice it daily then only it will work out. We cannot force mind to stop. In Ramayana Bali gets power of his opponents too. Bali or Vaali was blessed with the ability to obtain half the strength of his opponent so it was difficult to kill him. Same case with our minds too whenever we try to fight with mind it’s strength increases. So only way to reduce thoughts is to teach mind to calm down.

What is Mindfulness ?

Mindfulness simply means you live in the current moment, not in past or future. Actually there is no past or future, no yesterday or tomorrow only today and only this moment is available to us. Past is a recorded present and future is only an imagination present. So what we can really use is this present moment – here and now. Mindfulness is being simply aware about this current moment.

Our minds have two modes – auto and manual. When our mind in past or future, our mind is in automatic mode that is subconscious mind is in control. Problem with this mode is our subconscious mind contains a large collection of memory from our childhood days and most of them will be negative too. So it auto mode our state of mind will based on these past experiences. So even if you want to be positive and be happy you will not be able to achieve that because subconscious mind is million times powerful than conscious mind. So subconscious will be in full control and that decides everything. Main problem with subconscious mind is it cannot differentiate good and bad. It simply operated based on the events recorded in the past.

But when brain in manual or direct mode conscious mind takes control and which is our logical mind which knows how to differentiate good and bad. When you practice mindfulness or when you are aware about the current moment you are coming back to this mode. So when you practice mindfulness daily slowly your mind will becomes more in present moment and this reduces thoughts and calm down the moment.
